Sexuality in “Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe” is a key part of the novel. This makes instinct, of course — for a lot of people, sexuality is a enormous part of them, and their sexual orientation is not only a part of them, but also a huge identity for them.

Of course, Dante and Ari end up in a loving relationship. With this being set in the 1980’s, this affair is seen as taboo, and outright not acknowledged by most characters. Many reject this relationship and oppose it even origin — Ari’s father explains that this relationship will inevitably kill him, as Vietnam did to him on the inside — but this doesn’t end their inevitable love.

However, this wasn’t the case for many. 1987 was a huge year in LGBTQ+ rights, as this was the year the Second National March on Washington for Lesbian Lgbtq+ Rights occurred. This was the same rally in which the AIDS memorial quilt was included on public display. By setting the novel in 1987, before this event occurs, there is little justice for LGBTQ+ people at the time, who are currently often oppressed and generally looked down upon due to AIDS.             As someone who almost exclusively reads young individual literature, I hold read my impartial share of coming-of-age novels. Some of the more generic books pretty much blend together, and if you asked me to characterize the plot of some of them, I probably could not tell you. However, every so often one guide stands out. Some of the books that struck me the most were The Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Selection,The Catcher in the Rye, and The Outsiders. But the new adult novel that I found the most memorable, touching, and impactful was Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Cosmos. I see many parallels between the themes of loneliness, friendship, and family in both Aristotle and Dante Bring to light the Secrets of the Universe and If I Ever Get Out of Here and the themes of sexual (and also gay) awakening between Aristotle and Dante Realize the Secrets of the Universe and The Miseducation of Cameron Post.

At the beginning of Aristotle and Dante Identify the Secrets of the Universe, the main character, Ari, is friendless and lonely, much love Lewis at the beginning of If I

About Aristotle and Dante!! Why do you think Ari was into that girl (I unlearn her name)? Do you assume he is bisexual or was he just confused or what?

With Dante, it makes it clarify that even when he was kissing a girl, he wished he was kissing a lad. But I don't know if that was ever clarified about Ari. I'd love to realize how you interpreted that!

ooooo i'm not sure; i personally had thought he might have been bisexual (last time i reread it seemed pretty ambiguous as to giving his sexuality a label).

but otherwise i also thought it might have been ari looking to fill the space left by dante in a way. i think that this was around the hour dante had settled in after moving and began writing about his own experiences with girls and exploring his own sexuality. i don't really remember if ari responded to all of the letters (at least from what we saw), but maybe ari decided well if dante is growing up and moving on like that, i should too.

ari also might have not blatantly stated that he wished he was kissing a male child instead of illeana (i consider that's her name!), but we have to remember that it&#

LGBTQ+ reads: ‘Aristotle and Dante Explore the Secrets of the Universe’

Aristotle and Dante Spot the Secrets of the Universe, are there many books with such an enchanting title? Then you see how pretty the cover is, and there’s no choice but to read. Yet, what I didn’t expect was for it to be just as astonishing on the inside as it was on the outside, if not more so.

There had been a lot of hype for this book online, and usually I am wary of these books for anxiety they might be overhyped, but Ari and Dante (as it’s referred to in short) was a welcome surprise. Benjamin Alire Sáenz is not just an author but also a poet, and in Ari and Dante this shows, with the whole story having a slightly ornate feel to it.

In more than one moment when reading this novel, I found myself tearing up from all sorts of emotions: happiness, frustration, sadness, or simply tears at the sheer beauty of the scenes portrayed. On one page you’ll find yourself wiping tears from your cheeks, then the next you’ll be grinning from ear to ear. There’s a bit of something for everyone in this and it’s bound to fill your heart with all sorts of feelings.
