Of course, the show is set in New York City in 1958, an era when LGBTQ customs was firmly underground. But Borstein doesn’t think Susie is “about having a relationship or sexuality” at all, because her priority has been overcoming the other difficulties in her life.
“Susie has never had the luxury of a relationship or wanted to give a shit about or focus on that in her life,” Borstein said. “Her childhood was pretty rough from what we've explored, and I think her whole reality up until now has been very protective of herself. She's put up a lot of walls, she’s pushed forward, and she wants to endure. She wants to place food on her plate and she wants to be significant in some regard. She wants to leave a mark, and I don't think that's on her mind.”
Amazon has yet to confirm a fourth season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel — which was just nominated for another Golden Globe on Monday — although show creator Amy Sherman-Palladino reportedly plans to produce four to five total seasons.
Borstein said she can imagine a day, perhaps in a future season, when her character might be able to “breathe” and turn her thought to more personal matters.
“I think if she gets to the point where she'

Set in Unused York City, in the late 1950s and early 1960s, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is primarily about a female stand-up comedian (Midge Maisel) who struggles to make a name for herself in the male-dominated world of comedy. With the support of her tough-as-nails manager (Susie Myerson), who is simultaneously working to obtain her own career off the earth, Midge just might have a chance.
While Susie dresses and acts like a butch lesbian, the writers of the show have avoided naming her sexual orientation or giving her a like interest for four whole seasons. It’s worth noting that every other main character is heterosexual, and they all have romantic partners.
For years, many fans criticized the reveal for its refusal to acknowledge Susie as a queer woman , but those who are affiliated with the series, skirted the issue repeatedly. In an interview with Buzzfeed News, Alex Borstein, who plays the role of Susie, once said:
“I don’t recognize that Susie’s ever been kissed or ever been held, and I believe the first period she has a moment to trial that — I think the first person that decides to hold her or kiss her, that might be her first treasure, and I’m

These infrequent glimpses into her personal life can enliven us as an audience, but it feels as though we’ve been teased with small snippets of vital knowledge over the last 5 seasons. Mrs Maisel Season 4 Debunks Major Midge Enemy & Susie Theories
Warning: SPOILERS for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel Season 4, Episode 4 - "Interesting People On Christopher Street"
John Waters' guest spot in The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4, episode 4, debunked two theories about Midge Maisel's (Rachel Brosnahan) new gossip columnist antagonist and Susie Myerson's (Alex Borstein) sexuality. A few months after Mrs. Maisel was fired from Shy Baldwin's (LeRoy McClain) tour, Midge now works as the emcee at The Wolford, a New York City strip club. Meanwhile, Susie was able to find a new apartment that doubles as the office of her fledgling agency, Susie Myerson and Associates. But Miriam's chance meeting with a character played by John Waters answered a couple of questions about Midge and Susie.
In The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 4, Midge learns a Daily News gossip columnist named L. Roy Dunham is targeting her with hit pieces. Dunham still hasn't been introduced on the production but speculation was that the muckraking journalist would be played by one of The Remarkable Mrs. Maisel season 4's guest stars. Meanwhile, Midge (and the audience) have always wondered why Susie has neve
