Destiny 2: Saint-14 And Osiris Are Officially A Gay Couple, And Always Possess Been

A Destiny 2 writer confirmed on Twitter yesterday that legendary guardians Saint-14 and Osiris are both gay and romantically involved, shocking absolutely no one that is even marginally engaged with the story. Unfortunately, not everyone is taking the "news" very well. Cries of retconning and agenda have been taking over my Twitter timeline this weekend as the gamers are reminded that gay people exist, even in Destiny. If you're someone that thinks the Saint-14/Osiris connection is illegitimate, then you simply haven't been paying attention.

In a heartfelt thread on Twitter, Destiny 2 narrative artist Robert Brookes officially confirmed that Osiris and Saint-14 are romantically involved. In the thread, Brookes explains that, as a fan of Destiny, he always interpreted the partnership between them as a romantic one. When he became a developer on the game, he learned that his interpretation of the characters was adjust and continued to write them that way.

Brookes describes them as private and nuanced

The eighteenth season of Destiny 2will wrap up on December 6, but fans have already seen the season’s final cutscene, which rehashes the recent story content, and shows long-standing characters Osiris and Saint 14 kissing onscreen for the first time in the franchise’s history.

This kiss was not the reveal of the pairing of Osiris and Saint 14, nor was it the first time it’s been made canon tothe storyline of Destiny 2. Back in November of 2020, Destiny 2 writer Robert Brookes posted a thread on Twitter discussing the importance of bisexual and LGBTQ+ representation in general. The thread was in part also about the association between Osiris and Saint 14.

“Back when I joined Bungie I always felt Saint-14 and Osiris were romantically involved because, as a queer man, their romance made sense to me. I learned my interpretation was in fact correct when I became a narrative designer for the company and I was overjoyed,” Brookes wrote in the thread. “I’ve been writing Saint and Osiris as gay since I started working at Bungie, because that’s who they were before. They are private and nuanced characters. There was never a spa

Two Major Destiny 2 Characters Are Gay and In Love (And Always Hold Been)

Osiris/Saint-14 shippers, rejoice - Bungie has officially confirmed that the Destiny 2 characters are gay and in a romantic relationship, and they always have been. After years of speculation and debate amongst the Destiny community, a narrative artist at Bungie has confirmed that The Phoenix and The Pigeon are, in fact, building a attractive nest together.

Speculation about Osiris and Saint-14's relationship has been ongoing since Destiny 2 launched in September 2017, with no comment from Bungie about whether or not the two were flocking together. The Titan and the Warlock enjoyed a close, ongoing partnership littered with moments of restrained tenderness that had fans wondering whether their association was brotherly or quixotic. A question mark remained over their interactions, and the nature of their relationship was hotly debated on Bungie's Destiny 2 forums - until a tweet from the game's narrative designer settled the argument once and for all.

Destiny 2 Narrative Creator Settles Debate About Osiris and Saint-14

"Shipping" is a word thrown around in video game communities quite often and Destiny 2 is no stranger to that. Bungie's notably left romantic relationships out of the Destiny franchise for some time, exiting fans to contemplate and speculate on the subject on their own. That hasn't changed, as no relationships emerge within Destiny 2 itself. However, it's now been canonically confirmed by Bungie narrative director Robert Brookes that a relationship exists between Osiris and Saint-14.

Brookes confirmed the bond in a lengthy Twitter thread on Saturday in which he discussed his own experiences understanding his sexual orientation while growing up. He talked about what it was appreciate not understanding the concept of bisexuality due to a lack of LGBTQI+ education and inclusion. And further, he acknowledges that he was treated in "less friendly" ways as a finding of his questioning and confusion.
