While 2020 will always be remembered for COVID, in the Merged States it was also a year marked by historic protests against systemic racism and social injustice.
Professional athletes played a singular role during this turbulent period of self-examination, standing up for their views in a highly polarized environment. How accomplish some connect to the traditional Jewish concept of social justice, known in Hebrew as tikkun olam? And if they are not explicitly motivated by anything Jewish, then how can these athletes inspire others to repair the world by standing up for others?

Welcome to my annual Who’s Queer in the WNBA Report! For those of you who are new, every year I split down the list of athletes who are openly queer in the league. As a gender non-conforming person who has played basketball my entire life, the off-court drama is always equally as exciting as the on-court show of skills. Knowing who’s homosexual and who’s dating who only adds to that for me. If you’re more of a pure viewer of the game and prefer only knowing what’s going on while the clock is running, I do regularly make WNBA TikToks that I like to think are lovely informative!
The league is well famous to have some of the best pre-game walk-up outfits in all of professional sports, so you’re missing out if you don’t follow at least the @wnba account on Instagram. Here’s a complete list of all out gay players in the league, broken down by team. For my purposes, “Out” means confirmed by the player either in an interview or on their social media. No matter how masculine presenting someone is, I will not be speculating!

Whew, we had a time last night!! The 2023 WNBA Finals have approach to a shut, and they ended in the most dramatic way possible.
The Las Vegas Aces, after facing violent last minute injuries sidelining two of their starters (including last year’s finals MVP and homosexual basketball legend-in-the-making, Chelsea Gray), managed to hold their composure under historic circumstances and walked way with a one point lead at the buzzer to become the first WNBA team in 21 years to be back-to-back champions. From the Aces bench, including Syd Colson and Kierstan Bell, who rose to the occasion when their team needed them both, to Liberty stars Breanna Stewart and Jonquel Jones — of course whenever the sports drama has reached its hottest temperature, you can bet the gays are the center of it. After all, the WNBA is the gayest league for the reason. 😉
