There has been a distinct increase recently in the number of gay men arrested for prostitution at adult video stores in Manhattan.
Anger is building against the police department in the wake of an increase in arrests of gay men for prostitution at Manhattan adult video stores. Last week, City Council Speaker Christine Quinn joined in the outcry. She said she is working with the mayor's office and commanders of the police department to set up a meeting that will add gay community groups "to gain to the bottom of this."
The arrests have been documented by Duncan Osborne of the Queer City News over the last several months. Police are allegedly using handsome young undercover cops to cruise middle-aged gay men, offering to go home with them for consensual sex. As they leave the store together, the cop offers to spend the man for the sex, confusing the victims who can't imagine why the younger dude would make such a invitation. Then, as they walk out of the store, the victim, despite never having agreed to any exchange of money, is surrounded by undercover cops, handcuffed and charged with prostitution.

Several men were arrested in Maryland after police raided an adult bookstore and charged the men using an unconstitutional anti-sodomy law.
According to the Washington Blade, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office raided the Bush River Books & Video store in Abington on May 20. Nine men were arrested and many of them were accused of engaging in sexual acts with each other. One was also accused of soliciting prostitution from an undercover female deputy.
Four of the men are facing a charge of perverted sexual practices, which is the state’s anti-sodomy law. One man received the same charge and an additional impose of indecent exposure. The other four men are facing charges of indecent exposure or solicitation of prostitution.
“I went inside and was hooking up with someone and the next thing I know eight of us were against the wall with handcuffs with plastic zip ties on them,” one guy, from here on referred to as John Doe, arrested in the raid told the Washington Blade. “And we all spent the night in jail. I was released at enjoy six o’clock in the morning.”
